FARMERS MARKET REVIEW:
Bronxville Saturday Farmers Market
Is the Bronxville Farmers Market Really Worth the Trip?
For the second farmers market review, I visited the Bronxville Saturday Farmers Market in Bronxville, NY. This market runs each Saturday from May through November. It is located at 1 Stone Place, right off the Bronx River Parkway. When carrying out this review, I took into account six factors of an ideal farmers market: variety of food options, size of market, seating available, freshness of products, "vibes," and pricing.
Variety of Food Options: 6.5/10
While the market had a nice variety of fresh produce, cheeses, and specialty goods, it had almost no hot food and pastries. With so many vendors, I hoped they would have more options available for customers.
Size of Market: 7/10
This market is overall medium to small. It encompasses a small part of a parking lot.
Seating Available: 1/10
No seating is available dedicated to customers.
Freshness of Products: 10/10
All produce is visibly fresh and sourced directly from local farms within a 50-mile radius. Vendors enthusiastically share information about their growing practices, and the quality is noticeably superior to supermarket alternatives.
"Vibes": 6/10
This market has friendly vendors, a nice park and playground for children, and is in proximity to the town. Could use some live music or entertainment, as it is in a quite boring parking lot.
Pricing: 7/10
The prices at this market can be high, but are not drastically different from its counterparts. Be prepared to pay New York City prices, but at least they are for local, fresh products.
Overall: 6/10
The Bronxville Saturday Farmers Market is an above-average farmers market in Westchester. I recommend it for families and food enthusiasts seeking fresh produce and high-quality specialty foods. However, it is lacking available seating and an overall "vibe" that is welcoming, like other markets in the area.
Until next week at … the Pleasantville Farmers Market!
